Children Activities

Children Activities will be from 10-1130am and 1-230pm

Simple Embroidery taught by Suba will be 1130-1230

Our Chancellor Minor, Lady Toi, has fun activities planned for the littlest of our populous!

She will have supplies to make A&S tokens for the kids to pass out after, blowing bubbles, knuckle bones to play with, trying a hoop and stick game, juggling scarves, Bilboquet (cup and ball toys), balancing butterflies, spinning tops, clay marbles and maybe Skittles. There will also be a Jester Relay race (if there are enough kids).

Suba al-Hadid will also be teaching an Embroidery children as young as four. She will teach simple embroidery stitches including running stitches, Holbein Stitch, and split stitches to follow a line from a stencil. Bring an adult to help untangle thread if needed. $1 donation for this class helps cover the costs of supplies but is not asked for.

Warp Weighted Loom Demo: Starting With A Starter Band

I will be measuring out a warp for a warp weighted loom, weaving a starter band with tablets and getting it ready to put on the loom.

1:30pm

Warp Weighted Loom Demo: This Warp Needs Weights

I will be putting the prepared warp on the loom, hanging the weights and tying the spacer strings.

2:30pm

Warp Weighted Loom Demo: How Does This Stick Make The Loom Work?

I will be knitting the heddle strings and begin weaving.

Learn the Basic of SCA Photography

9am Fighting Fields

Bruka the Saracen

This will be a class on how to get the best images possible at an SCA event. We will go over the basic setting you need, what to look for and composition.

Class will be at the Fighting Fields. Gather near the inspection tent. All ages are welcome. Make sure you bring your camera, no matter the style be it a DSLR or your cell phone!

The Tarot Journey

10am Feast Hall

Debra from Butterfly Magic Tarot

Come and learn a brief history on the origins of Tarot and how it’s evolved to what we know today. We’ll look at the journey of the Major Arcana and how it plays with the Court cards and Suits, as well as how symbolism, numerology, various spreads, and personal interpretations create a reading. I’ll have a limited supply of handouts for class. $2 for a printout. (Also available for free after class via email.)

Class is appropriate for ages 14 and up

Intro to Drop Spinning

11am Feast Hall

Dúnlaith Ingean Donnchada

Come learn the fun way to spin yarn, I will be going over a few different types of spindles and we will be learning on a top whorl spindle. Kits will be $5 and include a Student Spindle and Wool.

Class is appropriate for ages 10 and up

Simple Stitches for Starting Stitchers

2pm Feast Hall

Lady Kristen De Kennet and Lady Amia Turner

Class is geared for folks who would like to try their hand at embroidery. Five stitches taught will be Satin, Stem, Split, Straight and Short and Long.

Limited to 10 people. Supplies will include sharp embroidery needle and scissors. Class is appropriate for ages 10 and up with an adult

Making Cordage with Foraged Materials

3pm Pavillion

Sulicena filia Vassurae

Together we’ll try our hands at a simple, and very old technique to make twined cords using daylily leaves. Examples of other materials that work well will be shared, as well as ideas for what you can do with the cord you produce.

Class is appropriate for ages 6 and up with adult.
